Tierra Data Inc. conducted an inventory of the desert tortoise along with research activities to assess habitat selection by desert tortoises on steep slopes and the adjacent flat desert. The survey took place south of the power corridor of the MCLB Rifle Range, in public lands to the east, and in portions south of the Base designated as critical habitat owned by the Bureau of Land Management. Habitat parameters at both the micro- and coarser habitat scales were defined to illustrate desert tortoise habitat use versus availability across the surveyed landscape.
